There are venues that host weddings, and then there are places that elevate them into something cinematic. The Drake in Chicago lives firmly in the latter category.
From the moment I arrive on a wedding day, there’s a shift in energy. The light filters through tall windows with a softness that feels almost intentional—like the building understands its role in the story. As a photographer, I’m always chasing light, texture, and emotion, and The Drake delivers all three without effort.
The suites are a dream for getting-ready moments. Ornate mirrors, classic furnishings, and just enough vintage charm create a backdrop that feels both editorial and intimate. It’s the kind of space where a quiet glance, a champagne toast, or the fastening of a dress becomes instantly timeless.
Then there’s the architecture. Grand ballrooms with high ceilings and intricate detailing give every frame a sense of scale and elegance. You don’t have to manufacture drama here—it already exists. My job becomes less about creating moments and more about recognizing them as they unfold naturally.
One of my favorite parts of photographing weddings at The Drake is stepping outside, even briefly. The contrast between the historic interior and the energy of Chicago just beyond its doors adds dimension to a wedding gallery. It reminds couples that their story sits within something bigger—this iconic city, this historic place, this fleeting day.
But what truly defines a wedding at The Drake isn’t just its beauty—it’s how it makes people feel. There’s a quiet confidence in the space, a sense of occasion that guests immediately recognize. And when people feel something, it shows in every photograph.
In the end, that’s what I’m there to capture. Not just a stunning venue, but the way it holds a moment—and turns it into something unforgettable.
