Wedding Photography Poses: How to Look Like Yourselves

August 7, 2026

One of the biggest worries couples have before their wedding is surprisingly simple.

“We’re awkward in front of the camera.”

If that’s you, you’re not alone.

Almost every couple tells us the same thing.

The good news is that natural photographs usually have very little to do with knowing the “right” pose.

They have everything to do with feeling comfortable.

That’s why we rarely start by asking couples to smile at the camera.

Instead, we begin with movement.

Walking together.

Talking.

Holding hands.

Taking a breath before the ceremony.

Those small actions give you something to do instead of something to perform, and that’s when genuine expressions naturally appear.

For modern Indian weddings, this matters even more because your portraits should feel like an extension of your celebration—not a break from it. There are moments when we’ll provide more direction to create elegant, timeless portraits worthy of your home. There are other moments when stepping back allows your personalities and your relationship to take over.

Both approaches have their place.

The goal isn’t to avoid posing altogether.

It’s to make sure the guidance never overshadows who you are.

When you’re choosing a wedding photographer, don’t ask to see their best poses.

Ask yourself something more important:

“Can I imagine feeling comfortable with this person?”

Because the photographer doesn’t just create the photograph.

They create the environment that allows it to happen.

The best wedding photography poses don’t make you look like someone else.

They help you recognize yourselves.
