Engagement Photography Tips for Photos That Feel Like You

August 7, 2026

Your engagement session doesn’t need to look like a preview of your wedding.

In fact, I think it’s more valuable when it doesn’t.

This is your chance to photograph the two of you without a timeline, hundreds of guests, or a dozen traditions happening around you. The goal isn’t to create perfect wedding portraits. It’s to create photographs that feel like your relationship.

Start with a place that actually means something to you.

Maybe it’s the neighborhood where you spend your weekends, a favorite museum, the city where you met, or somewhere completely new that feels like the two of you. A meaningful location gives you something to interact with and makes the photographs more personal.

Then think about what you’ll actually do there.

Walk. Get coffee. Talk. Explore. Sit together. Move.

You don’t need to know how to pose. A good photographer should be able to give you enough direction to feel comfortable without turning every moment into a performance.

And don’t feel like your engagement photos need to look traditionally “Indian” just because your wedding will. Your engagement session can reflect the life you’re creating together—your style, your interests, and the culture you actually live in.

The best engagement photographs aren’t the ones that prove you know how to pose.

They’re the ones that make you think, “That’s us.”
